The ultimate qigong, or, spirit of the sensuous

The ultimate qigong, or spirit of the sensuous.

I had a dance/somatic teacher who’d often share that his qigong teacher called dance the “funky qigong”—well, isn’t dance the ultimate form of qigong? To channel pure life force energy through one’s body in movement? To drop into one’s senses and allow the spirit of energy, breath, music, gravity, heart, soul—qi— inform them? To allow the spontaneous 𝘮𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 to 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦 the form? Our bodies are our instruments of sensing, our spines are made to spiral, and though we may become habituated to tension and holding tightly to the vertical and unbending postures, limiting range and sensuousness—which will also limit thought—we are made to be fluid and spacious when we are at our optimum in our nervous systems—both calm and alert, ready to respond in the moment, attuned to spirit and the heart of the matter—within and with-out. This is where we are able to create growth and evolution in our lives, in play and possibility, to allow the known to arise through the unknown, the mystery. This is the space where opportunity lives, where we can discover novel solutions to recurring issues. And while some say we incarnate here on earth to learn, I also believe that we are meant to realize that, beyond the cycles of lessons, we are ultimately here to be creators—𝘸𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘴 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯 𝘢 𝘧𝘪𝘦𝘭𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘤: everything and nothing and the potential of something are all right here. This is part of a shamanic mystic point of view: possibility. Let’s all come to our senses more and more, through the 𝘸𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘦 spectrum of human experience. Play in the possibilities, a dance of life. The art of BEing human connects us to heart and spirit, allowing us to resource from core body and soul wisdom.

Shine on,
